About Keller Lai
Old in thought, but young and fancy-free, Keller Kaleolani is the embodiment of a seven-year old boy. When most children are watching cartoons, he is much happier to see the news and he definitely doesn't miss any opportunity to watch "60 Minutes." He never meets a stranger, and really enjoys going to the Saturday night, contemporary service at his church.
Keller is the son of Lothar and Carly Lai. Carly and Lothar's first son, Brenden, passed away at an early age while Carly was pregnant with Keller. After his death it was found out he had Chronic Granulomatous Disease. Born on May 11, 2004, Keller was diagnosed with the same. He is currently enrolled at a program at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. They have recommended a life-saving bone marrow transplant. Keller's younger sister, Olivia, is going to be the donor so the whole family is relocating for several months. An estimated $25,000 is being raised by Moore volunteers. With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-needy patients.
We are hoping that while this story began with one little boy taken too soon, it will end with one little boy who gets to a live a long, healthy life. Please visit the activities and events page to see how you can help out or contribute directly to the campaign with the donate now feature.
